CoreAlign is a new Pilates-like approach to fitness created by Israeli physical therapist Jonathan Hoffman. The objective of employing this technique is to achieve greater trunk control and core abdominal and pelvic floor tone, while simultaneously strengthening the arms and legs. The equipment design puts minimal strain on the neck and spine because all work on it is done in a standing position. For instance, to strengthen the abdominal muscles on CoreAlign a person does not need to lift the head as is done when lying on the floor performing crunches.

People at all levels of ability can take advantage of CoreAlign exercises because of its gradated resistive stretch bands. Movements can also be individualized to account for the patient’s conditioning and injury status. Leigh is one of only a few health practitioners who have trained on this equipment. She is pioneering its use in the Bay Area medical arena.
A strong and flexible core supports your every move, boosting your balance and stability while improving your posture and overall fitness. If a movement doesn't originate in your core, which consists of the muscles in your abdomen, back, and around your pelvis, then it passes through it. What this means is that a weak or inflexible core will have a negative impact on everything you do, whether that's throwing a ball, going for a run, bending down to tie your shoe, or reaching for something on the top shelf. Our core powers every move we make, from the ordinary to the extraordinary. When that core is strong and agile, it works with us; when it's weak and inflexible, it works against us, or at least, feels that way.

Great on its own or as a complement to your regular Pilates practice, Balanced Body's CoreAlign system is an integrated, whole-body workout that zeros in on your core through a combination of cardio and strength exercises and, like Pilates, emphasizes the mind-body connection. A perfect blend of challenging and fun, the CoreAlign workout improves your balance, gait, and reactivity to your environment; it is equally great for the super-fit, semi-fit, determined-to-be-fit, or someone rehabbing from an injury. It will only take one class a week of CoreAlign's mindful movement exercises to see and feel a marked difference in your balance, agility, posture, and back health.
We'll pair you with one of our expert instructors and schedule four one-on-one sessions that are all about you. Your first session will be an assessment. In addition to receiving a posture and function evaluation, we'll gauge your abilities and discuss your needs, challenges, and goals. One session will focus exclusively on CoreAlign, where we'll introduce you to the fundamental movements of CoreAlign's integrated, whole-body workout; the other sessions will focus on Pilates.
After your fourth JumpStart™ session, you'll move into a small group class with no more than five people. As personalized attention is the common thread running through all our programs, you'll find the same support and guidance in a CoreAlign group class as you would in a Pilates one-on-one session. For your convenience, CoreAlign classes are offered mornings, afternoons, and evenings seven days a week.
